France Hong Kong Distinguished Lectures Series
“Time and events in Computer Science” by Professor Gérard Berry
November 6, 2024, Professor Gérard Berry, Member of the French Academy of Sciences, delivered a conference on “Time and events in Computer Science” in the City University of Hong Kong as part of the ''France Hong-Kong Distinguished Lectures Series'' The lecture targeted at a more specialist audience, thus most participants are Computer Science experts and scholars from Hong Kong and Macau. During the lecture, Professor Gérard Berry discussed three kinds of informatics. He highlighted and elaborated some NP-complete problems, asynchrony and synchrony, and provided a brief overview of these topics with various examples.
France Hong Kong Distinguished Lecture Series had been started for 19 years. These high-profile lectures were launched by the Légion d'Honneur Club Hong Kong Chapter’s former councillor Prof. Philippe G. Ciarlet, under the support of the French Academy of Sciences and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau. The seminar series brings presentations from renowned scientists such as Nobel laureates or members of the French Academy of Sciences, provides extensive opportunities for academic exchange.
