Admiral Alain Coldefy's Visit to Hong Kong: 17 November - 22 November 2024
From 17 November to 22 November 2024, Admiral Alain Coldefy, the President of the Society of Members of the Légion d'Honneur, embarked on a significant visit to Hong Kong, following a day trip to Macau on 20 November. This visit aimed to strengthen the ties between France and Hong Kong, emphasizing cultural exchange, collaboration, and mutual appreciation.
During his stay, Admiral Coldefy engaged in various meaningful activities organized by the Légion d'Honneur Club Hong Kong Chapter. One of the highlights of his visit was attending the Gala Dinner on 18 November, where he had the opportunity to connect with members and guests, celebrating the enduring relationship between France and Hong Kong. His presence at this prestigious event underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy and the shared values that bind our two communities.
In addition to the Gala, Admiral Coldefy also visited several cultural institutions, including the M+ Museum of Contemporary Arts and Hong Kong Palace Museum, where he explored exhibitions that celebrate both local and international artistry. This engagement underscored the shared values of creativity and innovation that connect France and Hong Kong.
Throughout the Macau day trip on 20 November, Admiral Coldefy visited various significant venues, including the Crystal Lobby and Raffles at Galaxy Macau, where he enjoyed a delightful luncheon. The itinerary also included cultural highlights such as Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul’s, and the Macau Museum. This enriching experience allowed Admiral Coldefy to engage with the vibrant culture.
Furthermore, Admiral Coldefy took the opportunity to visit HKU-Pasteur Research Pole which the Légion d'Honneur Club Hong Kong Chapter supported its programme for many years. He emphasized the importance of research collaboration in addressing global challenges. His commitment to supporting academic initiatives reflects our Chapter dedication to fostering education and innovation in Hong Kong.
Admiral Coldefy also visited an exhibition on Chinese sailors’contribution to D-Day at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which commemorated the pivotal events of World War II and their significance in shaping modern history. Moreover, Admiral Coldefy participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the military cemetery in Stanley, honoring the sacrifices made by soldiers during historic conflicts. This solemn event served as a poignant reminder of the shared history and enduring bonds between France and Hong Kong.
